Just as the name of the restaurant implies, ATELIER VIVANDA is a restaurant promoting a lifestyle and it’s all about meat with quality, vegetables in season and creativity. I went there with a friend who is a meatarian as I am. For the first time in Paris, we reserved a table and it was four hours before we went there. Eight o’clock sharp, we were there outside the restaurant.
This is a restaurant quite Parisian, modest size, chairs and tables set compactly, decorations simple but appropriate. You see, even the tables are inspired by the chopping block of butchers!
So a waiter lead us to the chef table from where you can talk with the chef and see clearly how they work in the kitchen. Again for the first time in Paris, the waiter asked us if we want him to talk in English and he was willing to explain everything on the menu if we have questions. So he did, from the top to the bottom of the menu, explained everything patiently in English and that helped us a lot.
A basket of bread was served before the dinner of course, except for the difference that a bottle of special olive oil called CARACTÈRE was served and recommended too. It is invented by Akrame Benallal, the owner of the restaurant who owns also a MICHELIN restaurant. Akrame made this kind of oil after a long time studying spices and pepper, he wanted the pepper to expire it’s fragrance without aggressiveness. Well, we have to say that he succeeded. Accompanied by CARACTÈRE, the duck meat was still tender and redolent with the irresistible smell but not greasy any more.
We’ve ordered a pudding and a mango sorbet to share. What else can we expect after so much meat?
